New Pinwheel Watch is compatible with Pinwheel’s proprietary parent portal and offers features for children and parents, including GPS tracking, texting, calls, a camera, and games.
Austin, Texas (June 26, 2025) – Pinwheel, best known for its popular and top-rated smartphones for children and teens, today launched the first children’s smartwatch offering age-appropriate, parent-monitored and voice-activated AI chat.
Designed specifically for safe use by children ages 7-14, the Pinwheel Watch is an ideal solution for the growing number of parents seeking a way to stay connected with their kids without giving them a phone. The watch provides parents with GPS tracking and management tools while enabling kids to text and make calls (among parent-approved contacts), and take and share photos. And – unlike any other kid’s smartwatch on the market – Pinwheel Watch offers unlimited access to a voice-activated and parent-monitored AI chat app (PinwheelGPT) that comes pre-loaded on every device.
“Until now, most of the smartwatches for kids were geared toward elementary school-age children, with limited functionality and an emphasis on location-tracking,” said Pinwheel CEO and Founder Dane Witbeck. “The Pinwheel Watch is designed with more features and flexibility to grow with your child into middle school. It has cameras for selfie-sharing and video calls, and even a voice-to-text AI chat app that gives kids a safe way to use AI with parental supervision. These cool features and functionality help ensure kids actually wear the watch and enjoy it for a while, enabling families to delay giving them a phone for longer if that’s their goal.”
When it comes to the watch’s integrated PinwheelGPT app, Witbeck explains, “Pinwheel’s goal has always been to put kids in the driver’s seat with technology – with guardrails and parental supervision in the background. That applies to AI as well. We think it’s an incredible tool they can learn to use safely and productively via a parent-monitored app like ours. However, if a child is not ready for this type of tool, parents can disable it as well.”
Pinwheel Watch Key Features and Details
Children can text (using voice commands or a keyboard) and make calls on the Pinwheel Watch – but only with those who parents have approved to add to the “Contact Safelist.” Later this year, Pinwheel will enable video calling at parents’ discretion on the watch. Just as with the Pinwheel phone, the Pinwheel Watch enables parents to allow or deny image texting by contact and to remotely monitor a child’s text messages and call history.
The Pinwheel Watch will come pre-loaded with a host of useful features and unique apps, including:
For families with multiple children of different ages, the Pinwheel Watch enables parents to use the same parent portal to manage watches and phones for multiple kids, and it’s easy to move to a phone when it’s time. You can copy over contacts and settings and then get $50 off your Pinwheel phone when it’s time to upgrade.
The Pinwheel Watch costs $159 + a $14.99/month monthly subscription fee to access the Pinwheel parental management tools and cellular service. It is available for sale now on Pinwheel.com, and will be sold on Amazon later this year.
